Organic Carnauba Wax
This wax, similar in texture and behavior to beeswax, is obtained from the leaves of the Copernica Cerifera, or “Tree of Life.” Because it’s 100% veggie-based, it’s a great alternative to beeswax for all you vegan-leaning folks, and lends many cosmetics their glossy finish (like the smooth finish on natural foundations, lotions and deodorant).
Similar to beeswax, this South American product acts as an emulsifier, stabilizing any compound it’s added to. It also offers the same soothing properties, so it’s great for dry or irritated skin.
Fun fact about carnauba wax: while the Tree of Life is planted all over South America, it only produces wax in northern Brazil. During the dry season, the foot-long palm fronds secret the wax in order to protect themselves from dehydration… so just imagine what it does for your skin!
